Product Description :
LAN GUI REN OOLONG TEAOur Lan Gui Ren is an exquisite, ceremonial grade loose leaf tea, directly sourced from the growers in the Yunnan Province.
Here, first, flush oolong tea leaves are hand-picked twice a year in this historic tea producing area.
The leaves are lightly oxidized, containing slightly more caffeine than green tea, but less caffeine than black tea.
They are then hand-rolled with American Ginseng and Licorice Root to make our favorite tea! This is an ideal tea for those looking for a restorative alternative to coffee.
ORGANIC OOLONG TEAOur Lan Gui Ren Oolong Tea is not certified organic.
While at first, this may come as a surprise for many customers, it is largely only the lesser quality teas that are certified organic and it is only the lesser quality teas that may be subject to harsh and toxic farming practices.
INTERNATIONAL ORGANIC CERTIFICATION STANDARDSTo understand the why behind this, it is important to note that for the more elite teas and the plantations they are grown in, the farming practices are extremely traditional—almost revered.
These practices, while at their root core are organic, would have to be severely altered to meet international organic certification standards.
In the high-end tea market, organic teas are considered as a cheap commodity intended for the export market.
Changing their practices to meet the demands of the export market just is not going to happen.
In producing fine teas, there is a definite congruence between the goals of traditional farming and the goals of organic farming.
In speaking with tea producers, there is a commitment to soil and ecological health practiced that is not evident speaking with organic producers.
This standard of farming is more deep ecology than it is meeting marketing standards.
