Product Description :
In The Esoterrorists RPG , you play elite investigators combating the plots of the Esoterrorists, a loose affiliation of occult terrorists intent on tearing the fabric of the world.
The Esoterrorists introduces the GUMSHOE rules system, which revolutionizes investigative scenarios by ensuring that players are never deprived of the crucial clues they need to move the story forward.
The Esoterrorists is easy to learn, easy to play and replayable by design.
Incorporating years of advice, actual play experience, and design evolution, this core book includes all the rules you need to play the game that revolutionized investigative roleplaying.
Review I like the Esoterrorists.
It is a fun, quick, and simple little system.
It seems like it would be a great system for bringing new people in with, especially if they like shows like CSI or Castle.

Especially of use is the fact that the game does deliver on its promise.
You could easily explain the rules to someone in 15 minutes enough so that they could play.
You can also learn them enough to run the game in about an hour.
There are some spots you”d still need the book (for tables and such) but you could do it.
The game also delivers nicely on giving the feel of a cop drama, or mystery series.
Even with the horror stories that the game comes with, and the policing of the world against people trying to summon monsters.
It looks like a game that could easily provide hours of fun, either as a medium length campaign, or as that thing you do for 2-3 sessions between other games.
–Reality RefractedThe best Mystery/Investigative RPG ever If you roleplay, and you like mystery stories (even if you”ve never really liked them in RPGs) you”ll love this book.
The rules are incredible – I honestly think this is the best investigation-based RPG ever printed.
–Rolfe Bergstrom, Transitive Property of GamingThe tradition of investigative horror role-playing games has a long history.

Will this one be able to stand out from an apparently increasingly crowded genre? The short answer is a resounding Yes, thanks to a rather inspired bit of thinking on the part of the author, Robin D.
Laws (designer of The Dying Earth, Feng Shui, and Rune RPGs) about the nature of investigative role-playing, encapsulated in the core of the rulebook, the GUMSHOE system.
The main difference between this game and its predecessors is that The Esoterrorists RPG recognises and addresses the problem of under skilled player characters that don t or can t find the vital clue, which throws the entire scenario off kilter and cannot be completed satisfactory.
The solution is to change the emphasis, instead of scrabbling around hunting for clues, the investigators are assumed to be competent enough to find them, and the emphasis instead is now placed on the interpretation of said clues.
This isn t to say that they will be doled out anyway if the players choose to sit back and do nothing, or that characters with better skills won t be rewarded.
On the contrary, the players still have to ask the appropriate questions and use their player characters to examine a scene to get the clues.
